Today, we embark on a journey. Journeys are often called Quests when they bring a sense of adventure and magic.
Today’s stone has a story to tell you and it will begin to tell you its story here, but for you to make it your story, too, you may need to touch and hold such a stone or another of the stones that will be speaking at the POFFF sometime soon.
BLOODSTONE. Stone of courage.
Sometimes our fears stop us from being who we most wish to be–fearless, strong, able to do anything we set our hearts and minds on.
Courage is the ability to act, not in a way that will bring you into danger, but in a way that will allow you to move through something that may have been stopping you. You may be on one side of a rickety bridge or a narrow passageway, metaphors or another word for how everything feels right now.
Bloodstone can be your shield to carry you through a difficult time. It can be a stone that looks deep red, red-brown or some mixture of colors.
Bloodstone is a legendary stone. It has been held in high regard by many ancient cultures throughout the ages. Some believe that it was formed when the blood from Christ’s wounds fell from the cross and stained the earth around Him. It is believed to have powers over wounds and illness, healing our bodies, minds and spirits.
Bloodstone is here now. It comes as a friend to help us better understand the earth.
It can be part of your quest to follow the yellow brick road to the place where all magic happens and all beings learn how magic they really are. It is a place called Home.
If you’ve dropped by to see what’s new: we’re doing a word detect and explore: It’s also a game with five answers. Answers at bottom of page and they give you even more. Pleeeze don’t look till the end.
1. What’s a four-letter word that means to “Mend” a hole in your sock? _ _ _ _-it.
5. How would you pantomime that four letter word with your hands? But what about with your feet? DO IT NOW with your feet. But take your _ _ _ _ _ off so you stay standing rather than slip-sliding away.
Well, that’s a start.
Just what are ACTION SENTENCES?
A string of action words – those that make you move in any direction – up, down, low, high, forward, back or side to side – in a special way. You could also move in place and you might do it with rhythm or a special kind of timing… fast slow… really quick or sloooow-motion.
Before you read more, see if you can think up a few Action WORDS and pick your favorites.
See if you can find one or more HERE: Ready to rock ‘n roll?
- Freeze or flow or do you already know how to groove and toss with words like these?
- Don’t quote me on that, but if you can’t raise your standards can you at least meet me where I am?
- What? You’d rather depart?
- Snake it, shake it, flip or flop in unless you’d rather drop in.
- Rumba, Cha cha… are you a dance number or do you lumber, slow and sweet?
Got the gist? Just a little twist and maybe you can snap your fingers, glance at the suggested words and figure eight them into… a circle dance. Come on. TAKE A CHANCE.
Can you contribute to the nation, or, are you glued to your location?
Spot dot Spot dot Spot dot… Freeze.
4. IF YOU STILL HAVEN’T GOT IT… Don’t spell the words out, do them. Fun or just _ _ way to start a dance craze?
Jump race stop squeeze.
Glide glide glide |walk sideways| sneak backwards| tiptoe now.
Wring hop gallop slither roll creep.
2. Meander like a gander. Duck Duck _ _ _ _ _.
3. If OJ means orange juice, are you T O’d that the first letter of this clue came at the end to confuse you? The first letter of this three-letter word sounds the same as this 3-letter word: _ee.
Take a peek:
TRANSPARENT BUTTERFLY: All things beautiful do not have to be full of color to be noticed: often in life that which is unnoticed has the most power.
Transparency–what does it allow us to see?
Clear–as in clarity–or as in Clear as mud?
Why do we talk the way we do? Ever wondered that? And where do words come from? Space?
Greta oto is one of a number of similar transparent winged butterflies. It comes from central America, and is found from Mexico to Panama. It is quite common in its zone, but it not easy to find because of its transparent wings, which are a natural camouflage mechanism.
Latin name: Greta oto
Common name: The Glasswing
Augh-ough. I’m hooked. Glasswing Butterfly is a brush-footed butterfly. The tissue between the veins of its wings looks like glass.
This creature sounds like a dancer… maybe a sylph. Brush-footed. What on earth is that? It brushes as it walks? (dancers do this when they do something called battement tendu jete)
Or is it that it’s foot looks like a brush?
It’s positively eerie. I’m getting like… Cinderella’s slipper. It was glass.
But there’s more… lore… It’s a member of the clearwing clade. Is that a club?
Oh. It’s fantasy. Gotta be. No? The clearwing clade is real? Are you a member? Gee. Tell me about it. I might want to join.
The butterfly’s Spanish name is “espejitos”, which means “little mirrors.”
Wait, I remember another cool name… The Least Skipperling
It’s a bug, an insect, an arthropod. Or is it? And what’s least about it? I personally would love to be called a Skipperling. I like skipping and skippers. Is the ling from dingaling? What is a “ling” or is it all one–skipperling. A lingskipper? Ohhh. A ling skipper. It jumps from cloud to cloud. I can see it now.
Oh. Now some of the scientists and naturalists are angry at me. I led them on. They thought they’d come here and discover some new fact. However, I’m not scientist or naturalist, I’m a writer, so I can’t tell you “the facts” unless I do more research or someone latches onto this site who knows and leaves a comment.
I just love the names. It elicits in me some wonder. What is its story? The Glasswing. The Transparent Butterfly. The Least Skipperling. What does it have to tell us about itself, and therefore about life? In facts or not.
Is Least Skipperling the name of a girl born in Australia? Is this a boy from a Native American tribe? Perhaps, this character–if I choose to bring it to life–will be a dog owned by a fairy who lives at sea world. I don’t know yet. Perhaps someone–you–will tell me your version.
Maybe you’ll write about it, or tell its story in pictures, drawn, finger-painted, danced, or taken by camera.
Or maybe, it’s a poem. I think its name is one.
Whatever it is
To me it’s magic.
The Adventures of Being in the Middle of Everything.
Does this sound like you or someone you know? Probably. Because we’re all royalty and we all are in the middle of something.
